Exhibition
In connection with the 14th World Congress of Food Science and Technology, the organizing committee of this congress has tenatively decided to hold an "International Exhibition of Food Science & Technology and Industrial Innovation" at the same time. Student Grants
A limited number of grants (CIFST will pay the registration fee and accommodation expense) are available for pre-doctoral students. To qualify, applicants must: 1) be an author and present of the accepted abstract and 2) be recommended by IUFoST Adhering Body of respective countries or equivalent academic society. Applicants should check the box on the screen when filling out the electronic submission form. In addition, applicants should mail to the 14th World Congress Organizing Committee the document proving their pre-doctorial status, either in the form of a copy of a validated student identification card, or in a letter from their Department Chair who verifies the student status.

About Shanghai
With a population of 16.74 million (including the floating population), Shanghai is China’s second post populous city. It is also China’s economic, trade, financial, manufacturing and shipping center. The city has a total area of 6,340.5 square kilometers. The city extends about 120 kilometers in north and south and nearly 100 kilometers in east and west. The urban area is 3,924.24 square kilometers and the rural area 2,416.26 square kilometers.
Shanghai is well-known both at home and abroad not only for its prosperous metropolitan feature and rich humanistic resources but also for a number of tourist attractions with modern flavor that have been developed in recent years.

Weather
The monthly average temperature in October is 13.2 degrees Celsius and the precipitation in the month is about 70 mm.

Passport and Visa
Passports, valid for at least six months from the entry into China, and entry visas are required to visit China. Visas may not be required for visitors from certain countries, and Congress XIV participants are advised to consult the nearest Chinese diplomatic mission for details.
A single entry visa is valid for three months, and can be extended for an additional month at the Foreigners Section of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau if necessary.
Once in China, the Congress XIV participants are advised to carry their passports on them at all times because the passports may be needed to check into hotels, book airline tickets, and change money.
To apply for visas, participants should first fill out and send in the registration form with the appropriate fee. The Congress XIV Secretariat will then send a formal invitation via airmail with which the Congress participants can apply for a visa at the Chinese diplomatic mission indicated in the invitation. This application should be made preferably at least one month before departure for China.

Electricity
The electric current used in China is 220V 50Hz.The hotels can provide 220V power outlets. Please note that plug adapters may be necessary.

Shopping Hours
Stores open at 8:30 or 9:00 and close at 20:30 or 21:00,every day of the week.

Currency and Banking
Chinese Yuan (Renminbi) is the only currency used in China. Money exchanges by cash or traveler’s checks can be made at the branches of the Bank of China at Shanghai Pudong Airport, hotels and tourist stores.
Banks usually open at 9:00 a.m.and close at 5:00 p.m.every day of the week (including Saturdays and Sundays). Currency exchange services are available for following foreign currencies: US Dollar, British Pound Sterling, Euro, Japanese Yen, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Swiss Franc, Danish Krone, Norwegian Krone, Swedish Krone, Singapore Dollar, Malaysian Ringgit, and Macao Pataca. Smaller money exchange outlets may not accept all of these currencies.
Credit cards such as American Express, Diners Club, JCB, Master Card and Visa may be used for payment at hotels and tourist stores.
When visitors leave China, they can change the remaining amount of CNYY back into foreign cash at the airport prior to their departure from China. But if they wish to do so, they have to show foreign currency conversion receipts. Liability
In all cases the organizers of Congress XIV shall only act as an agent and shall not be liable for any losses, accidents, personal injury, or damage to property of any kind and origin whatsoever. The liability of the persons or companies instructed to provide the services shall not be affected. Amendments shall not be valid unless mutually agreed in writing and signed by the two contracting parties. The place of jurisdiction for fully qualified merchants, persons who do not have a general place of jurisdiction in China, and persons who have relocated their place of residence to a foreign country after the conclusion of the agreement shall be Shanghai.

Arrival
All international flights arrive in Shanghai at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG). Most domestic flights arrive in Shanghai at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA).
Shanghai Pudong Inter national Airport i s 35 kilometers from downtown. Airport shuttles and taxicabs are available whenever there are flights. If you have much luggage, you can take a taxi (CNYY180) to the Convention venue. The cost from the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport to the Convention venue is around CNYY50.Please show drivers the bellow note to easily get to the right place.
